Catastrophic damage has been inflicted by Hurricane Melissa, which rapidly intensified into a Category 5 storm, unleashing winds exceeding 185 mph. Jamaica has suffered the most severe impact, enduring destructive winds, perilous storm surges, and an overwhelming 40 inches of rain.
