Donor-advised funds (DAFs) have grown in popularity in recent years. Why? Because they allow philanthropists an easy, cost-effective way to support their favorite causes.

DAFs are accounts that donors set up and managed by nonprofit organizations (most often, the charitable arms of financial institutions like Fidelity Charitable, Schwab Charitable, Vanguard Charitable, etc.). Donors contribute to the fund, which grows tax-free, but receive the tax benefit from their contribution immediately.
